St Joseph’s Catholic School in Newton Aycliffe has proudly completed CAFOD’s Big Lent Walk, bringing our whole school community together for a meaningful act of faith and service. It was a wonderful day that allowed pupils of all ages to take part in a shared Lenten journey while helping to raise money for CAFOD’s important work.

A Whole School Effort

Pupils from Years 1 to 6 set off with great enthusiasm as they walked from school to St Mary’s Church and then made the return journey together. Their energy, teamwork and determination were clear to see throughout the walk, and it was inspiring to watch them support one another along the way.

Our youngest children in Nursery and Reception enjoyed their own Big Lent Walk experience within the school grounds. They explored the outdoor areas, talked about the signs of spring and enjoyed time walking together as a group. It was a lovely introduction to the spirit of Lent and helping others.

We would like to thank everyone who supported us on the day and all who have kindly donated. Your generosity helps CAFOD continue its work with communities around the world and allows us to play a small but meaningful part in that mission.

Thank You to Our Mini Vinnies

Alongside the Big Lent Walk, our Mini Vinnies led a reflective Stations of the Cross service at St Mary’s Church. Their thoughtful prayers, calm leadership and reverence created a moving and peaceful experience for everyone who attended.

The care and preparation they put into the service showed great maturity and faith, and we are extremely proud of everything they achieved. Their contribution added a deeper spiritual dimension to our Lenten journey as a school.

A Community Living Out Lent Together

Both the Big Lent Walk and the Stations of the Cross have helped us reflect more deeply on the meaning of Lent at St Joseph’s. Through walking, praying and acting together, our pupils have shown compassion, kindness and a willingness to help others.

Well done to every pupil involved and thank you once again to the families and supporters who help make these moments possible.
