British Science Week at St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School ended with a celebration of curiosity and creativity. The Eco Warriors opened the week with an inspiring assembly, encouraging pupils to think like scientists. Children took part in an engineering challenge, designing inventions to make life better. South West Durham Training visited to teach KS2 about engineering careers, while KS1 enjoyed a robot-themed story and even met the robot. A brilliant, inspiring week for all.

Across the week, students met professionals from multiple sectors—including public services, technology, sport, and community support—helping them understand the many opportunities available for their futures.

St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School in Newton Aycliffe enjoyed a fantastic World Book Day celebration yesterday, filled with creativity, colourful costumes, and a shared love of reading. Our two‑year‑olds and nursery children had an especially wonderful day embracing the joy of stories in fun and imaginative ways. Throughout the day, children arrived dressed as their favourite book characters—from timeless classics to modern favourites. The effort, imagination and creativity that went into the costumes were truly impressive, bringing beloved stories to life across our EYFS classrooms.

Our School Council led both assemblies with confidence and care, helping pupils to explore the importance of understanding, respecting, and valuing the many different beliefs and cultures that make up our world. They also shared learning about the life and legacy of Dr Martin Luther King Jr., focusing on his powerful messages of equality, peace, and compassion.

At St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School, Newton Aycliffe, we love bringing stories to life — and this term, our children enjoyed a truly memorable experience as part of our celebration of Winnie‑the‑Pooh Day, marking the 100th anniversary of this much‑loved children’s classic. To enrich the children’s learning, we were delighted to welcome Seven Stories – The National Centre for Children’s Books into school. Their interactive storytelling sessions inspired imagination, creativity, and a love of literature, helping children explore the world of A.A. Milne’s Winnie‑the‑Pooh in a fun and meaningful way.
