Celebrating Winnie-the-Pooh Day at St Joseph’s Newton Aycliffe

At St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School, Newton Aycliffe, we love creating memorable learning experiences that spark imagination and a lifelong love of reading. Our recent Winnie-the-Pooh Day was a truly magical celebration, bringing the enchanting world of the Hundred Acre Wood to life across the school.

A School Full of Storybook Characters

The day began with excitement as children arrived dressed as their favourite characters from A. A. Milne’s much-loved Winnie-the-Pooh stories. From honey-loving Pooh Bears and bouncy Tiggers to thoughtful Eeyores and sweet Piglets, our classrooms were transformed into a vibrant storybook scene.

The creativity and enthusiasm on display were wonderful to see and set the tone for a day centred around storytelling, imagination and fun.

Inspiring Workshops with Seven Stories

We were delighted to welcome Seven Stories into school, who led engaging and inspiring workshop sessions with every class. Through a mix of discussion, activities and creative exploration, the children delved into key themes from the Winnie-the-Pooh books, including:

  • Friendship and kindness
  • Outdoor adventure and woodland nature
  • Curiosity, imagination and problem-solving

These interactive sessions encouraged children to think deeply about stories, work collaboratively, and make meaningful connections between literature and the world around them – all key priorities in our approach to learning at St Joseph’s.

A Very Special Teddy Bears’ Picnic

To end the day, the whole school came together for a heart-warming teddy bears’ picnic. Children proudly brought along their favourite teddies, sharing stories, smiles and teddy-sized treats with friends.

One of the most lovely moments of the day was seeing our older pupils take on the role of storytellers, reading Winnie-the-Pooh stories to our younger children. This not only reinforced their own love of reading but also helped to build confidence, leadership and a strong sense of community within our school.

Celebrating Reading, Imagination and Community

Winnie-the-Pooh Day was a joyful celebration of books, friendship and imagination, and a perfect example of how we bring learning to life at St Joseph’s Newton Aycliffe. Events like this help nurture a genuine love of reading while creating shared experiences that children remember long after the school day ends.

A big thank you to Seven Stories, our dedicated staff, and our wonderful pupils for making the day so special. We’re incredibly proud of the enthusiasm, kindness and creativity shown by everyone involved.
