At St. Joseph’s Catholic Primary School, Newton Aycliffe, we believe in preparing our pupils for life beyond the classroom. This week, our Year 6 students embarked on an incredible 10-week business project designed to spark creativity, teamwork, and entrepreneurial thinking.
What’s the Challenge?
Over the next ten weeks, pupils will design, create, and sell their own product at Durham Market. This hands-on experience gives children a real taste of what it means to run a business—from concept to customer!
Week One Highlights:
Understanding Business Basics
Our pupils explored what a business is, why it exists, and who buys products. They learned that successful businesses meet customer needs and provide value.
Teamwork Matters
We discussed why teamwork is essential for success. To put this into practice, pupils took on the Marshmallow Challenge:
Build the tallest tower possible using 20 pieces of spaghetti, 1 metre of tape, and 1 marshmallow on top!
This fun activity encouraged problem-solving, collaboration, and creative thinking—all vital skills for future entrepreneurs.
Introducing Entrepreneurship
We introduced the concept of being an entrepreneur, inspiring pupils to think big, dream bold, and believe in their ideas.
Special Thanks
A huge thank you to Charly from Pimm’s and Needles, who will be supporting us throughout this exciting journey. We can’t wait to see what amazing products our pupils create!
