Sculpture Comes to Life for Year 5 and 6 at St Joseph's Catholic Primary School, Newton Aycliffe
Pupils in Year 5 and 6 at St Joseph's Catholic Primary School in Newton Aycliffe enjoyed an inspiring visit to the Laing Art Gallery in Newcastle as part of their art and design learning. During the visit, the children explored the sculptures of renowned artist Henry Moore, studying the different materials used and examining how the human figure can be represented through sculpture. They also discussed the position and direction of figures, confidently using artistic vocabulary such as proportion and abstract to describe what they observed.

Lake District Adventure Creates Lasting Memories for St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School Pupils
Pupils from St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School in Newton Aycliffe have returned from an unforgettable three-day residential visit to Derwent Hill in the Lake District, packed with adventure, challenge and achievement. From Monday to Wednesday, children from Year 4, Year 5 and Year 6 embraced every opportunity with enthusiasm, determination and plenty of smiles as they took part in a range of exciting outdoor activities. The residential programme included ghyll scrambling, exploring a mine, canoeing, rock climbing and the famous Death Swing. Each activity encouraged pupils to step beyond their comfort zones, develop new skills and discover what they were capable of achieving.
