As British Science Week came to an end at St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School in Newton Aycliffe, we looked back on an inspiring week celebrating curiosity, creativity, and scientific thinking.
A Brilliant Assembly Led by Our Eco Warriors
The week began with a whole‑school assembly led by our amazing Eco Warriors. They introduced this year’s theme—curiosity—and encouraged everyone to ask questions, explore ideas, and think like scientists. Their message reminded pupils to keep wondering “What if…?” and sparked excitement for the days ahead.
Engineering Challenge: “If I Were an Engineer, I Would…”
Throughout the week, pupils took part in an exciting engineering competition. They designed inventions to make life better, using creativity, imagination, and problem‑solving skills. It was wonderful to see so many thoughtful and innovative ideas come to life.
A Special Visit from South West Durham Training
We were also delighted to welcome South West Durham Training into school.
- KS2 pupils learned about a variety of engineering fields and the qualifications needed for future pathways.
- KS1 enjoyed a story all about a robot—and even had the chance to meet him!
The visit helped pupils understand engineering in a real‑world context and added an extra layer of excitement to the week.
A Wonderful End to British Science Week
Well done to our Eco Warriors for launching the week so confidently and inspiring us all to stay curious. British Science Week was filled with enthusiasm, discovery, and imagination—and we’re proud of how engaged our pupils were from start to finish.
What a brilliant week it was!
