Inspiring Pupils to Protect the Planet

Pupils at St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School in Newton Aycliffe recently took part in an engaging and thought-provoking environmental awareness session led by Steve Cooper.

The whole school gathered to learn about the importance of caring for the local environment and the impact that litter and waste can have on the world around us.

Understanding the Impact of Waste

During the talk, children discovered how long different materials take to decompose. Many were shocked to learn that some items, such as plastic, can remain in the environment for hundreds of years, while some plastics never fully decompose at all.

The session encouraged pupils to think carefully about the choices they make and how everyone can play a role in protecting the planet for future generations.

Taking Action in the Community

Inspired by what they had learned, St Joseph’s Eco Warriors put their knowledge into action by heading out into the local area for a litter pick.

Their efforts helped keep the community clean and tidy while demonstrating a commitment to caring for the environment and making a positive difference.

Thank You, Steve Cooper

The children listened brilliantly throughout the session and asked thoughtful questions, showing a genuine interest in environmental issues.

A huge thank you to Steve Cooper for sharing his knowledge and inspiring our pupils to think more carefully about how they can care for the world around them. Well done to everyone involved for helping to make a positive impact in our community.
