St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School in Newton Aycliffe enjoyed a meaningful day of remembrance and celebration as pupils, staff and families came together to mark VE Day.

The school was filled with colour as children arrived proudly dressed in red, white and blue, creating a wonderful atmosphere and setting the tone for a very special day.

The morning began with a whole-school assembly, thoughtfully led by the School Council. During the assembly, pupils were encouraged to reflect on the significance of VE Day and the importance of remembering those who lived through and were affected by the war. The assembly helped children to better understand why this moment in history continues to matter today.

In the afternoon, the school was honoured to welcome Lynne and Peter, who kindly shared their personal experiences and memories of life during the war. The children listened with great interest and asked thoughtful questions, helping to bring history to life in a truly meaningful and memorable way.

The day concluded with a fun-filled game of bingo, enjoyed by parents and children alike. With prizes, laughter and plenty of smiles, it was a lovely way to end a very special day and to come together as a school community.

Thank you to everyone who helped make our VE Day celebration at St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School, Newton Aycliffe such a memorable occasion.
