Pupils at St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School in Newton Aycliffe enjoyed a magical end to the school’s special ‘Back to St Joseph’s’ Week, which was filled with creativity, imagination and excitement as children embraced the theme, The Magic of a New Beginning.
The week-long celebration encouraged pupils to look ahead to the new academic year with confidence, optimism and ambition while taking part in a range of engaging learning activities inspired by the magical world of Hogwarts.
Exploring New Beginnings Through Imagination
Throughout the week, children immersed themselves in magical-themed learning experiences designed to inspire reflection and aspiration.
Pupils imagined boarding the St Joseph’s Express from Newton Aycliffe Station as they embarked on a new journey of learning. They also spent time considering their hopes and goals for the year ahead and wrote welcoming speeches focused on friendship, courage and making the most of every opportunity.
The activities provided a creative and memorable way for children to settle back into school life while celebrating the opportunities that a new academic year brings.
An Amazing Magical Performance
To round off the week in spectacular style, pupils and staff were treated to a special performance from magician Hayden Parker.
The audience was captivated from start to finish as a series of impressive tricks left children astonished and eager to discover how the magic worked.
One of the highlights of the show came when Harrison’s shoe mysteriously vanished during a magic box trick with the help of Mr Jones, only to reappear later in the Lost Property Box, much to the delight of the audience.
Laughter, Wonder and Surprise
The performance featured plenty of memorable moments, including a creative Rubik’s Cube display that revealed a giant image of Super Mario.
Children also enjoyed a humorous washing machine trick, where a pair of socks appeared to shrink, then emerged full of holes before magically transforming into a Sunderland scarf.
Laughter, applause and amazement filled the hall as pupils watched the show unfold, creating a fitting finale to a week centred on imagination and possibility.

The magical week provided a wonderful opportunity for pupils to celebrate fresh starts, set ambitious goals and strengthen friendships as they begin a new school year together.
