Pupils from St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School in Newton Aycliffe have returned from an unforgettable three-day residential visit to Derwent Hill in the Lake District, packed with adventure, challenge and achievement.

From Monday to Wednesday, children from Year 4, Year 5 and Year 6 embraced every opportunity with enthusiasm, determination and plenty of smiles as they took part in a range of exciting outdoor activities.

The residential programme included ghyll scrambling, exploring a mine, canoeing, rock climbing and the famous Death Swing. Each activity encouraged pupils to step beyond their comfort zones, develop new skills and discover what they were capable of achieving.

Throughout the visit, the children demonstrated fantastic teamwork, resilience and courage. They supported one another through every challenge, celebrating successes together and showing great determination when faced with new experiences. Staff were delighted to see pupils grow in confidence as the residential progressed.

Alongside the adventurous activities, the trip provided valuable opportunities for children to strengthen friendships, work together and create lifelong memories in the stunning surroundings of the Lake District.

A huge thank you goes to the staff who accompanied the residential and helped make it such a memorable experience. Their support and encouragement ensured every child was able to make the most of their time at Derwent Hill.

The three-day adventure was a huge success, and the memories made in the Lake District will stay with the children for many years to come. Well done to all of the pupils for their positive attitude, courage and willingness to embrace every challenge that came their way.
