Children at St Joseph's Catholic Primary School in Newton Aycliffe marked International Day of Peace with a meaningful day of reflection and creativity, exploring how small acts of kindness can help create a happier and more peaceful world.

On Monday, Key Stage 2 pupils came together to discuss the importance of peace within their school, homes and wider community. Through thoughtful conversations, the children reflected on the positive actions they can take every day to make a difference to the lives of others.

Pupils shared a range of ideas, including the importance of sharing with others, making sure everyone feels included in games and activities, and taking the time to speak to someone who may be feeling lonely. Their discussions highlighted the understanding that peace often begins with simple acts of kindness, respect and friendship.

To celebrate the day, the children created a beautiful paper chain, with each link representing a personal promise to promote peace through their words and actions. The colourful display served as a powerful reminder of the commitment made by pupils to help make their school community a welcoming and caring place for everyone.

Staff at St Joseph's were incredibly proud of the maturity and thoughtfulness shown by the children throughout the activities. Their reflections demonstrated a strong awareness of how individual actions can have a positive impact on others and contribute to a culture of kindness.

The event provided an excellent opportunity for pupils to consider the values of compassion, respect and inclusion while reinforcing the message that even the smallest gestures can make a big difference.
