St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School in Newton Aycliffe enjoyed a truly inspiring day as pupils and staff came together to celebrate the life and legacy of Sir David Attenborough on his 100th birthday, honouring his extraordinary contribution to understanding and protecting the natural world.

To mark this special milestone, the school welcomed Animal Story, a mobile zoo, giving children an unforgettable hands‑on learning experience. Pupils had the unique opportunity to meet and learn about a wide range of animals, including reptiles, mammals, insects and birds. Memorable highlights included seeing a tenrec, a skunk and a magnificent boa constrictor, bringing wildlife learning vividly to life and sparking curiosity and excitement across the school.

This enriching experience reflects St Joseph’s commitment to providing high‑quality, real‑world learning opportunities that go beyond the classroom and inspire a love of learning. Activities such as these help children develop curiosity, confidence and a deeper understanding of the world around them.

The day also saw St Joseph’s Eco Warriors take a leading role by delivering a whole‑school assembly. They helped pupils reflect on Sir David Attenborough’s life and legacy, linking his message of respect, responsibility and care for creation to the school’s values and commitment to environmental stewardship.
