Year 6 Shine at Durham Market with Enterprising Spirit
We are incredibly proud of our Year 6 pupils, who represented St Joseph’s Newton Aycliffe brilliantly during a recent visit to Durham Market. As part of their careers and business understanding experience, the children spent the day running their own market stall, selling handmade cushions and bags that they had designed and created themselves. From start to finish, the pupils took ownership of the entire process—learning what it takes to turn an idea into a product and a product into a sale.
Building a Better World: A Special Day for Year 4
Our Year 4 pupils enjoyed a wonderful and reflective day at St John’s Catholic School & Sixth Form College, where the theme of the visit was “Build a Better World.” Throughout the day, the children explored how Catholic Social Teaching (CST) can be put into action in everyday life. They moved around a variety of thoughtfully prepared prayer stations, each linked to a different aspect of CST, encouraging pupils to reflect on dignity, community, care for others and responsibility for our world.
St Joseph’s Pupils Enjoy Unforgettable Outdoor Adventure at Derwent Hill
Last week, our Year 5 and Year 6 pupils set off for an exciting residential adventure at Derwent Hill in the Lake District near Keswick. Travelling together with friends from St Charles Catholic Primary School, the children shared a coach journey that quickly turned into the start of a new friendship between our two schools. By the time they arrived, they were already united as one family, ready for a few days of challenge, fun, and discovery.

The visit was fully funded by the school, ensuring that every child was able to take part. For some pupils, it was their first ever visit to the capital, making the experience even more meaningful.
British Science Week at St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School!
British Science Week at St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School ended with a celebration of curiosity and creativity. The Eco Warriors opened the week with an inspiring assembly, encouraging pupils to think like scientists. Children took part in an engineering challenge, designing inventions to make life better. South West Durham Training visited to teach KS2 about engineering careers, while KS1 enjoyed a robot-themed story and even met the robot. A brilliant, inspiring week for all.

St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School in Newton Aycliffe enjoyed a fantastic World Book Day celebration yesterday, filled with creativity, colourful costumes, and a shared love of reading. Our two‑year‑olds and nursery children had an especially wonderful day embracing the joy of stories in fun and imaginative ways. Throughout the day, children arrived dressed as their favourite book characters—from timeless classics to modern favourites. The effort, imagination and creativity that went into the costumes were truly impressive, bringing beloved stories to life across our EYFS classrooms.
