Children across St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School have been taking part in International Mother Language Day, a special global celebration that takes place every year on 21st February. The day encourages people all around the world to appreciate the many languages spoken in our communities and to recognise how important it is to protect and celebrate them.

This term, our Key Stage 2 pupils had a wonderful opportunity to showcase their creativity as they took part in an Our Trust–wide attendance competition, organised by the Bishop Hogarth Catholic Education Trust.

Celebrating World Religions Day & Martin Luther King Day at St Joseph’s
This week at St Joseph’s, our school community came together for a thoughtful and inspiring celebration of World Religions Day and Martin Luther King Day. Our School Council led both assemblies with confidence and care, helping pupils to explore the importance of understanding, respecting, and valuing the many different beliefs and cultures that make up our world. They also shared learning about the life and legacy of Dr Martin Luther King Jr., focusing on his powerful messages of equality, peace, and compassion.

At St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School, Newton Aycliffe, we love bringing stories to life — and this term, our children enjoyed a truly memorable experience as part of our celebration of Winnie‑the‑Pooh Day, marking the 100th anniversary of this much‑loved children’s classic. To enrich the children’s learning, we were delighted to welcome Seven Stories – The National Centre for Children’s Books into school. Their interactive storytelling sessions inspired imagination, creativity, and a love of literature, helping children explore the world of A.A. Milne’s Winnie‑the‑Pooh in a fun and meaningful way.
